Tell us about yourself?

Icecolddiamond is not a person or an alter-ego of me. It’s all about reinforcing the darkest parts of my persona and make art out of it. I’ve never had an easy life, and as soon as I can remember creating things and making music has always been a form to change my reality and to purge my mind.

What is your songwriting process?

When I write songs, I always start with the lyrics. For me, the most important thing in my music is the message. Then I sit on the piano or the guitar and try to make a good song out of the poetry I wrote before. It’s always really organic, even if some songs may take months to be finished.

Tell us about your latest release?

I wrote ‘Ansietat’ just before finishing 2019. It was a very difficult time for me, and I had to deal with very hard anxiety. My psychologist said that I needed to find ways to calm it down, and I thought that writing a song about it could be a good idea. It actually was. I wrote it in my mother language, Catalan, because it felt more real than trying to sing about it in a different language.

What message do you think your music conveys to your fans?

My music has two different messages: to be yourself and not to be afraid of suffering or being in pain because we all have bad times. We are human beings, and it is normal. Life’s not easy, but it has a lot of good and amazing things. I also think that my music is about rebelling against the system and starting something brand new where people like us have the power instead of rotten governments and rich people.

Who are your musical influences?

I have a lot of different influences. It goes from artists like Björk, Marilyn Manson or Depeche Mode to synthpop and electronic artists such as Kraftwerk, iamamiwhoami, Jarre, etc. Also, I love flamenco even thought that I’m afraid of including some points of it in my music.

Who are your non-musical influences?

I love the art that was made in Europe during the XXth century: artist such as Dalí, Le Corbusier or Munch has influenced my art. I’m also into cinema. I love Tim Burton and his gothic style. I think it is also complemented with cyberpunk ideas from Matrix or Blade Runner!

What’s the best gig that you have ever played?

I haven’t played on big gigs, but my favourite was definitely the one I did in Barcelona this January. I played with two amazing friends some of my songs. Shoutout to Knight for singing with me ‘Power Fall’ and Laura Roma for sharing the stage with me on ‘Good Fight’.

What is your funniest gig moment?

I think when I forgot the lyrics to ‘How To Build a World’ and made new lyrics as I was singing it.

What do you think are the biggest obstacles for bands/artists today?

I think that there is a lot of competition amongst us. People give more attention to the biggest artists and indie people who are just starting, like me, have a lot of trouble to get noticed in media. Even between us, there is a lot of competitive people. Lots of small artists are eager to tear others down just to make their space instead of helping others in the same situation. What advice would you give to other bands/artists starting out? They should believe in what they do and fight for it. Lots of people will tell them that they are not good enough, but there is also a lot of people waiting to listen to them. If they believe in their art, beautiful things will happen someday.

What are your hopes for the next two years?

I’m releasing a new album by the end of the year, and I hope I can tour around Europe or the world with it. Especially the UK, Germany and US. I think I have a big market waiting for me there. Also, I hope I can sign to any record label!
