NOPRISM – ‘House of Smith’
Hailing from Newcastle-upon-Tyne, the superb band NOPRISM have released the single ‘House of Smith’, in July 2020.
A sample opens the release before the electronic pop feel breaks through. The chorus is memorable and driving; it stays with the listener long after the music has ended. The soaring guitar solo also adds a new texture to the piece and is executed superbly.
The production of the single is also brilliant; the snare is filled with a gorgeous reverb giving it space to breathe in the track. The layered instrumentation is balanced perfectly, and we adore the warmth the song emanates. In addition, we have added it to our playlist, check it out here.

NOPRISM say about the release, “Originating from a sampled drum loop from an old Roy Ayers track, the song began life as a bit of an in-joke, named after a bar in Newcastle the band would never go in.” They continue “The song typifies the band’s approach to experimentalism and just having fun with sound. As the song says in its own tongue-in-cheek way, ‘you’ve gotta evolve, man’.”
Yet again, NOPRISM has produced a single that is compelling and exciting in equal measure. Their previous release ‘Pieces’ accumulated 50,000 streams since its release. We can understand why! Read our full review of ‘Pieces’ here.
So make sure you add ‘House of Smith’ to your weekend playlist. We believe that this single is NOPRISM’s finest work to date. They are a band who are going from strength to strength this year, and we very much look forward to hearing to what they will do next.
