RAMI on ‘Save Myself’, Finding Strength and Creating a Cinematic World

Nashville-based pop artist RAMI introduces a new chapter with ‘Save Myself’, a cinematic single about finding the strength to move forward when life feels uncertain. Drawing on a period when she felt lost and disconnected, the song turns the familiar fairy-tale image of a princess waiting in a tower into a story of taking action and becoming her own rescuer.

Created with Jackie’s Boy and Quiet Girl and recorded at Blackbird Studio in Nashville, ‘Save Myself’ brings RAMI’s personal experience into a musical world shaped by emotion and visual storytelling. Her journey from Hungary to Milan and now the United States adds depth to this latest direction.

In this interview, RAMI discusses the experiences behind the single, the collaboration that brought it to life and the forthcoming video’s tarot-inspired imagery. She also shares her hopes for listeners and her ambition to build a wider world connecting music, film and character.

‘Save Myself’ begins with the feeling of waiting for someone or something to change your life. When did you start to realise you could take that step yourself?

There was a period in my life when I felt completely lost. I didn’t know what was next, what I should do, or even who I was anymore. I reached a point where I felt like I had no other choice but to “save myself.” I realised that I couldn’t keep waiting for someone or something else to change my life. I had to take that step myself.

The song uses the image of being alone in a tower. What does that image mean to you, and how did it shape the story of the single?

Jackie’s Boy wrote the lyrics after we talked about what I was going through and how I felt during that period of my life. The tower represents being completely alone and feeling trapped in a situation. In traditional fairy tales, the princess is usually waiting in the tower for the prince to come and save her. But in my story, I am also the prince. I have to save myself.

What drew you to a cinematic pop sound for such a personal song?

I think everyone’s life could be a movie in some way. At that time in my life, I remember feeling like, “This can’t be my life. This can’t be my story.” I felt disconnected from myself and from the life I wanted to be living.

So for me, the cinematic sound came very naturally. It felt like I somehow had to find my way back into my own movie, back into my own story, and become the person who could change the direction of it.

Jackie’s Boy and Quiet Girl wrote and produced the track. How did you work together to make sure it expressed your experience?

It was such an amazing and inspiring experience. We spent an entire day together in the studio, talking about my story and what I had been feeling. They started writing the song completely from scratch, and within about eight hours they had created it. The next day, we went back to the Blackbird Studio in Nashville and recorded it. It was incredible to see something so personal turn into a finished song in such a short amount of time.

Was there a moment during recording at Blackbird Studio when the song began to feel fully realised?

Absolutely. Even during the writing session, after just a couple of hours, we already felt that something special was happening. We were enjoying the melodies and building the words around them. But recording it at Blackbird Studio the following day was the moment when everything really came together. Hearing the song with my voice on it made it feel real.

You’ve described ‘Save Myself’ as the start of a new chapter. What feels different about the music you’re making now?

This is my first song made here in the United States, in Nashville, so that alone makes it very special to me. I’m originally from Hungary, where I started my career at a very young age. I released an album, made many music videos and had an established career there.

Now I am starting a new chapter in a completely different country and music industry. Having the opportunity to work with Grammy Award-winning artists here means so much to me. It makes my heart so happy, and I feel incredibly grateful and blessed to be creating music at this level.

You began your career in Hungary, studied music in Milan and are now based in Nashville. What has each place brought to you as an artist?

They say that the more languages you speak, the more you are. I think the same is true about living in different countries. Every country and culture adds something to you.

Hungary is where everything started for me and where I first became a professional artist. Milan gave me another perspective on music, culture and creativity, and now Nashville is opening an entirely new chapter. Every place has shaped me in a different way, and I think all of those experiences are part of the artist I am today.

Visual storytelling is a big part of your work. How did you develop the concept for the forthcoming ‘Save Myself’ video?

Visual storytelling is extremely important to me, and for this video I created an entire world around “Save Myself.”

The video begins with this idea of me being alone in the tower, and then the story starts moving into different tarot-card-inspired worlds. Each scene represents something different within that journey, but I don’t want to reveal too much before the video comes out.

We filmed it in Los Angeles with an incredible team from the film industry. My friend Suzanna Kiss directed the video and was also the cinematographer, and together we created something that I’m really proud of. The music video is coming very soon, and I’m so excited for people to finally see this world.

What do you hope someone who feels lost takes from listening to the song?

I hope they feel the strength behind the message and realise that they have more power within themselves than they may think.

Feeling lost can sometimes make you feel completely stuck, but I hope the song encourages someone to start taking action, even if it is only one small step at a time. You have to decide to save yourself.

Where do you want to take this cinematic world after ‘Save Myself’?

I would love for “Save Myself” to be the beginning of a much bigger visual and musical world. I really enjoy creating music where the song, the story and the visuals are all connected rather than existing separately.

With future releases, I want to continue building worlds around the music and experimenting with storytelling, film and different characters or visual concepts. I don’t necessarily want every song to look like “Save Myself,” but I want people to feel that when they hear one of my songs, there is always a bigger story and a visual world behind it.
