The Magnolias – ‘The Painting’

Hailing from Chapel Hill, indie-rock band The Magnolias have released the stunning single ‘The Painting’, in November 2020.

A fantastic electric guitar opens the release. Atmospheric vocals enter and the two duets effortlessly. We adore the full band sound which emerges and fills the sonic spectrum. It is filled with a warmth that captivates the listener’s attention.

The chorus is catchy and takes the single in a new direction. We found that the twists and turns in the piece keep the single feeling fresh. In addition, there is a beautiful harmony between the instrumentation that adds further colour to the song. ‘The Painting’ has a wonderful arrangement, and The Magnolias are masters of their craft.

The Magnolias say about the release, “‘The Painting’ is a reflection on the eternal nature of art- more specifically, the way that art itself, along with the associated thoughts, feelings, ideas, and intentions that guide its development, is preserved and immortalised upon creation.”

The Magnolias are comprised of band members Sam Gatlin- Keys, guitar, bass, percussion, Bryton Shoffner-percussion, guitar, keys, bass, and Danny Knutelsky- Vocals, guitar. In addition, The band worked with Jason Richmond on this release. Together they have created a single which will stand the test of time.

Influences

The band cite their main influences as coming from Jeff Buckley, The 1975, Radiohead, Delta Sleep, Bon Iver, Moses Sumney, and Jacob Collier. We can hear these magnificent artists coming through on ‘The Painting’ but make no mistake; The Magnolias are making music all of their own.

So make sure you add ‘The Painting’ to your weekday listening. The Magnolias are a band with a bright future, and we very much look forward to hearing what they will do next.
