The Yellow Bellies – ‘The Yellow Bellies’

Brighton based band, The Yellow Bellies are releasing their self-titled EP on 18th November 2019. This brilliant, infectious and groove ridden release is a must-hear for any music fan.

‘Belly Of Yellow’ opens the EP with a snappy and punchy groove. The ear-catching guitars, dancing high hats and melodic bass creates a foundation for the free-flowing hip-hop vocals to grow.

We loved the song, ‘Something New’, the sung vocals are divine, and the intricate guitar riffs set the piece alight. ‘Tequila’ is guitar lead with intricate and intriguing rhythms. ‘Please Them Honeybees’ has a melancholy opening with a reggae vibe emerging. Blissful.

Our favourite track on the EP is, ‘Where Did Your Lover Go.’ The Yellow Bellies describe it as, “A gentle ode to modern living, jumping from thought to thought, conveying the rapidly changing society we live in.” Its groove makes for compelling listening. A gentle jazz sound fades in grabs the listener’s attention immediately. The lyrics are genius and relatable while the chorus is melodic and will have you reaching for the repeat button.

Lead singer Reilly Sams’s voice is instantly likeable. He has a tone and delivery that is charming and filled with character. During all of the songs, he paints a unique and personal picture of society through obscure yet intimate lyrics. They are relatable with an honest thread running through them.

The production on the release is excellent. There is depth in the mixes and warmth in each of the songs that bound them together. The Yellow Bellies worked with Grammy award-winning producer Pete Smith (Stin – ‘The Dream of the Blue Turtles’) on the release, and together they have created a perfect piece of art.

So make sure you check out this release ASAP, we are sure you will love it as much as we do!
