We were very lucky enough to catch up with the superb Warrington based band ALIGNERS, for an interview following the release of her infectious single, ‘Sixties Hearse’. Check out our interview below!

Tell us about yourself?

We are Aligners, a four-piece indie rock band from Warrington. I’m Nathan, lead vocalist and I’ll be answering the questions today! What is your songwriting process? Usually, I’ll come to the guys with a bare-bones song (acoustic guitar with lyrics), and then we will all collaborate and make up our own parts, and we’ll swap sections around etc, some songs are made very quickly, and others take a lot of time to get right

Tell us about your latest release?

Our latest release is our debut single Sixties Hearse, which is available on all platforms now. It was produced by the guys at Sugarhouse (Viola Beach, Pale Waves, Larkins). It has been a staple at our gigs, and we felt it would be fitting for it to be everyone’s first taste of our music.

What message do you think your music conveys to your fans?

Difficult question. I feel like everyone will take different messages from our lyrics and music. I always try to write with the hope that the tunes will be relatable to someone out there, but the main thing is making it catchy, getting it stuck in people’s heads.

Who are your musical influences?

Definitely artists along the lines of Stereophonics. We all have our own music that we were brought up on. I was personally brought up on the likes of Motown and Northern Soul, which I’d like to think has influenced my writing in some parts.

Who are your non-musical influences?

Celebrity wise, we all love the Joe Rogan podcast, I aspire to be as chilled out as that guy. In regards to songwriting, it can be anyone; friends, family, relationships, people from all of them have influenced lyrics and the mood of the songs.

What’s the best gig that you have ever played?

For me personally, it’s got to be either Warrington Music Festival, which was a great day full of great bands or supporting Valeras at Sound Basement in Liverpool. They’re class and such nice people!

What is your funniest gig moment?

We’ve had our fair share of gigs where we’re playing to less than ten people. What we like to do is give an all-out performance like we’re headlining Glasto at these gigs, it’s always a good laugh.

What do you think are the biggest obstacles for bands/artists today?

I think that physical music not selling anywhere near as much as it see to is a big obstacle. You have to be smart about how you promote your music and how you can make money from it, it constantly changes.

What advice would you give to other bands/artists starting out?

I think that it’s important to build a good relationship with local artists in your area and to collaborate with them, being part of a community where everyone helps each other out is always a great thing!

What are your hopes for the next two years?

Hopefully we can keep building our following, writing more songs and making our way up the ladder to playing bigger stages and showing our music to more people. I think that’s what we all want!
