Interview – Jake Aldridge

We were very lucky enough to catch up with the superb Norfolk based artist Jake Aldridge, for an interview following the release of his infectious single ‘Partners In Crime’. Check out our interview below!

Tell Us About Yourself?

My name is Jake Aldridge. I’m from Norfolk, UK. Formerly, I was an award-winning hip-hop artist, and I am now leaving a 15-year career in Rap behind to pursue my new found love of Country-Pop music.

Tell Us About Your latest single?

My new song is called ‘Partners In Crime’. It’s my very first Country-Pop song, so I’m really excited about it. It was produced by Matt Knight and features Leanne Louise. It was co-written with David Booth. These guys are awesome, so you should definitely look them up! The new single is available on Spotify, Apple Music & YouTube etc.

What is your songwriting process?

Everything has changed now that I am singing instead of rapping, but I always start with the chorus and then work the verses around that. I am fortunate to work with several amazing producers from all over the world. They make the music, and I write the song. For my new track, ‘Partners In Crime’, I was helped enormously by David Booth, a musician/mentor who’s helped me transition from Rap to Country.

What message do you think your music conveys to your fans?

I think my new stuff is positive and uplifting. I also put a lot of myself into my music, so I hope that my fans get a feel for my personality when they hear my songs. ‘Partners In Crime’ shows my cheeky and mischievous side.

Who are your musical influences?

My new Country-Pop sound is very much inspired by artists like Kane Brown, Dan+Shay and Ryan Robinette. I love the way these guys are able to merge the two genres seamlessly!

Who are your non-musical influences?

My Father passed away when I was young, but he still influences me every day. His character and spirit were so unique; it’s simply indescribable. His influence on me was so profound that it often feels like he’s still with me today! I feel so lucky and often say that having a Father like that for 11 years is more of a blessing than having an ordinary one for all of my life.

What do you think are the biggest obstacles for bands/artists today?

Sometimes, it feels like we are all fighting for the same space. I’m finding that the industry is so heavily governed by money too. You want the best Producers; they will cost! You want the best singers; they will cost! You want to be on the best playlists; they will cost! The list goes on.

What advice would you give other artists/bands starting out?

I would say it’s important to be unique but to know your audience. Always think outside of the box, be persistent and be thick-skinned. Invest a lot of time and money in your music. I personally focus on the art more than the business. Stay true to yourself.

What are your hopes for the next two years?

I am now working with a South American producer who goes by the name of Dam Dominici. Try saying his name out loud over and over again. It’s such a cool name! Anyway, we are working hard on new music, and I look forward to releasing my next Country-Pop song very soon. It’s called ‘King of The World’. I’m really excited to continue pursuing this new sound that I am so heavily influenced and inspired by. I’d like to improve my singing abilities too and will be continuing with my singing lessons as soon as the virus subsides.
