Joanna McGowan – ‘Wasteland’

‘Wasteland’ is the brand new release by artist, Joanna McGowan. The 25-year-old musician from Kent is leading the pop way with this brilliant single and she is surely destined for big things.

The single has an atmospheric opening with intriguing synths leading proceedings. McGowan’s vocals are pure and rich. Very little has been done to them in the production which allows them to shine in their best light. We found them to be smooth and intoxicating, and they allow McGowan’s impressive tones to come through and be devoured by the listener.

Guitars, percussion and further synths enter the sonic landscape and fill it with rich colour and texture. We hear a subtle kick drum enter and its rhythm feels like the heartbeat of the song. The percussion takes the song up a gear in tempo and drive too.

The chorus grabs the listeners’ attention and holds onto it magically. There is a beautiful texture with the instrumentation coming and going throughout the song. This is truly wonderful composition.

After studying at the Institute of Contemporary Music Performance in London, August 2014 saw the release of Joanna’s EP, ‘JOY’. It was released on her very own independent label, Pen to Paper Records. McGowan works with Lander PR and the EP ‘JOY’ reached number 22 in the iTunes Singer/Songwriter chart.

Having been featured in numerous blogs and radio broadcasts (BBC Kent, Croydon FM, Meridian FM, Roundhouse Radio) Joanna has just finished working with producer Jackson Dimiglio-Wood (Shawn Mendes, The Libertines). Her latest release ‘Wasteland’ is a culmination of a lot of years of hard work and dedication.

It is a great single that needs to be heard to be fully appreciated. Its official release date is today, (Friday 30th August 2019), check it out from the player below.
