Queens-based musician Sam and the Sea released the superb latest single ‘The Light’, in March 2020. It is a compelling listen and is destined to win Sam and the Sea an army of new fans.
From a crowd filled opening, an attention-grabbing bass breaks through. Guitars and drums soon accelerate the sound, and all of this lays a solid foundation for the stoic vocals to enter. Luscious melodies and driving percussion create extra colour within the piece, and we adored the layered vocals too.
Sam and the Sea remind us of Beck and Elliot Smith in places. The production is intelligent and captivating, while the confessional lyrical tone provides a genuine honesty to the piece. ‘The Light’ is an intriguing and compelling single that needs to be heard to be fully appreciated.
Sam and the Sea say, “‘The Light’ is a song about being locked away from happiness, working and waiting until a spark finally cracks through.” He continues, “Sometimes you’re in the flow of your right life, and sometimes you’re very far off. Sometimes you have to wait a long time for the light to return.” These are sentiments that we can all relate to at the moment, and this is why ‘The Light’ is destined to touch the hearts of many people.
‘The Light’ was written and produced by Sam and the Sea, and mastered by Chris Gehringer at Sterling Sound. Together they have created an emotive piece of art that we believe is destined to stand the test of time.
So make sure you check out ‘The Light’ this week and add it to your lockdown playlist. Sam and the Sea is an exciting artist, and we can not wait to see what he will do next!
