Manchester-based band Scatterchild, have released their superb latest EP ‘Parallel Lines’ in May 2020. It is an addictive three-track EP that is destined to win the hearts of its listeners.
‘Icarus’ opens the release with a hauntingly beautiful vocal performance. An atmospheric piano and bass accompany the vocals alongside layered backing vocals too. We love the feel of the track, warm and inviting. ‘Target No.9’ has a big sound from the get-go. We loved the driving drums, melodic bass and engaging guitars. The final track ‘Parallel Lines’, is enigmatic from the beginning. It is a thoroughly addictive song that will have you reaching for the repeat button.
Scatterchild is comprised of band members, JAY PLENT: guitarist, principal songwriter, vocals, GEORGE ADDISON-ATKINSON: drummer, and percussionist. They say about the release, “We wanted to create something fast and punky that also had the emotional weight of some of the stuff we did on ‘The Candidate’ EP, and with such a good reaction to our last record, we wanted to build on that as fast as possible.”
‘Parallel Lines’ is the follow up to ‘The Candidate’ EP (recorded before a name change), released in 2019 and supported by several interlinking politically charged music videos. It was recorded at White Lion Studios, Essex, after the band impressed judges at the Cambridge Band Competition. Scatterchild also enlisted the help of Ashley Garrod and Tom Chapman to play on this EP. Collectively, they have done an excellent job in creating a record which is destined to stand the test of time.
So make sure you add ‘Parallel Lines’ to your weekday playlist. Scatterchild is an exciting band with a bright future, and we look forward to hearing what they will do next.
