NYC based artist Ash McMillan has released the beautiful single ‘Floating Away’ on 1st May 2020. It is a spellbinding release which needs to be heard!
Distant voices open the single before a funk jazz feel emerges. The subtle groove is the backbone of the single and lay the solid foundation for Ash’s soulful vocals to take the lead. Filled with rich tone and emotion, Ash’s vocal performance is divine. Lyrically, the single is brutally honest and relatable for many. We loved the luscious horns which gracefully add their colour and texture to the piece.
Ash says, “‘Floating Away’ was written while recovering from a sexual assault last year. I wrote ‘Floating Away’ to capture the raw emotion of feeling like I was losing myself. I felt myself tearing away from my loved ones and the things that mattered, but I felt helpless. Creating this song with my best friends, and people I love so dearly helped me channel that pain, and bring myself back to someone I recognized. The whole process of creating this was truly helpful in my healing process, and I hope you feel the love and care that went into making it.”
Songwriter Ash McMillan was born in Northern England and is now based in NYC. Her band is a lively, 7-piece pop/R&B group. The band was formed while all seven members were studying at the Conservatory of Music at Purchase College in New York. Inspired by the sounds of Sharon Jones, Amy Winehouse, and Alabama Shakes, the band performs her original music regularly around New York.
So make sure you check out ‘Floating Away’ this weekend, Ash McMillan is an exceptional artist and we can not wait to hear what she will do next.
