Declan Guckian is a singer-songwriter who is always on the move. Based in Prague, this Irish musician is a traveling man, collecting ideas and stories wherever he goes.

Guckian’s latest single, ‘Gold’ is an exquisite track which is laid back in nature and rich in soul. From a harmonised vocal beginning, a big song grows. First, we hear a hummed melody which we later learn will turn out to be the returning chorus. It is a catchy melody that will have you singing along in no time. Once the instrumentation kicks in, the laid back groove is established and the whole song fits together like a jigsaw.

We adored Guckian’s voice. His husky and warm tones feel like you are listening to an old friend speak to you. Safe in his guidance, Guckian takes the listener on a journey that feels comforting and he will have you reaching for the repeat button in no time.

Another strong element to ‘Gold’ is the luscious strings which are stunning. They enter subtly but help to guide the piece along. They have been laced in beautiful reverb which softens them and helps them sit gracefully in the mix. There are staccato elements that add texture and depth to the piece. These, alongside the strategically added pauses, give the song room to breathe and no part ever feels rushed.

‘Gold’ is the perfect length for a radio edit at 2mins50. We could easily hear this song being used in sync placement for film and TV. We are sure this is not the last we will hear about Declan Guckian. He is destined for big things and we will be watching with eager anticipation to see what will come next.
